Gifts4Kids was founded by Luke O’Flaherty in 2016 while he was a student at Belen Jesuit Preparatory School. At Belen he learned the value of service, to be a man for others, and volunteered his free time at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital (formerly known as Miami Children’s Hospital) since 2013. He noticed that the hospital benefited from the generosity of many wonderful people during the holiday season, but that there is often a shortage of small toys, puzzles, and art supplies to be given out during the rest of the year. Luke, with his brother Brendan O’Flaherty, resolved to address the shortage by founding a non-profit charitable foundation called Gifts4Kids to raise funds all year round. 100% of all donations go directly to helping the kids, and Gifts4Kids is staffed entirely by volunteers who are passionate about making a difference.
After graduating from Belen and enrolling in the Gabelli School of Business at Fordham University in New York City, Luke handed over control of Gifts4Kids to Brendan, who has also volunteered at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital throughout his high school years. Brendan expanded the volunteer staff and set a goal of doubling the foundation’s monetary donations for 2019.
